Hello there. I'm Peter Back.
I’m a hypnotherapist and psychoanalyst in private practice here at the Surrey Hypnotherapy clinic, in the Woking and Guildford area of Surrey, UK.
Many people tend to find the subject of Hypnosis to be absolutely fascinating. At the same time there are many misconceptions about the use of Hypnosis for therapy. Views on the subject seem to range from “it’s mumbo jumbo practised by charlatans” to “Hypnotherapy must be very effective, because I’ve seen that Paul McKenna chap on the televisionmake all sorts of people do all sorts of funny things”.
Many people have heard of Hypnotherapy being used successfully to help people to stop smoking. Usually this is because the newly converted non-smoker is so pleased with having managed to finally quit ‘the weed’ that they don’t really care who knows it !
On the other hand however, if say a 23 year old adult has successfully had Hypnotherapy assistance for their bed wetting, it is probably rather less likely that they will be shouting from the rooftops to everyone about their wonderful achievement !
You probably won’t be at all surprised now when I say that Hypnotherapy can be of great benefit in helping people to change in all kinds of ways, so that they can become more relaxed, confident and self-assured in many situations that previously troubled them and caused them stress. In particular, many ‘physiological’ problems are, in fact, ‘psychosomatic’ - caused by the mind. Hypnotherapy can very often help to provide relief in these cases, to an extent that will depend upon the nature of the particular problem that you have in mind - so to speak !
So, this web site has been prepared to help to allay
any concerns that you might have and to make you aware of the two main types of psychotherapy that are available using Hypnosis: Suggestion Hypnotherapy; and Analytical Hypnotherapy.
At this point, perhaps I ought to declare a particular interest. There are many ‘Hypnotherapists’ around who are well aware of the power of Suggestion Hypnotherapy, and will use this form of Hypnotherapy to treat any and every symptom that is presented to them. Some of the simpler symptoms, such as nail biting, pre-test nerves and lack of confidence can respond well to Suggestion Hypnotherapy. However, many such 'Clinical Hypnotherapists' know very little about the true power of Analytical Hypnotherapy which, when carried out correctly, can provide effective relief to physiological, emotional and psychological symptoms, by revealing and thus removing the originating cause; consequently relieving the symptoms.
This can lead to some Hypnotherapists treating symptoms inappropriately, using Suggestion Hypnotherapy. In this way the original symptom is ‘controlled’, or lessened. However the original unconscious cause will still be present, and the ‘controlling’ of the original symptom may lead to the creation of a completely new ‘substitute’ symptom. For example, the use of Suggestion Hypnotherapy to treat a person who has a fear of enclosed spaces (Claustrophobia) might mean that they subsequently develop a fear of going out (Agoraphobia), or maybe they might develop a nervous twitch or stutter or some such thing; as a result of the DedicatedSuggestion Hypnotherapy that was used to control their original symptom. They might then return to their ‘helpful’ Hypnotherapist, who will again use Suggestion Hypnotherapy to treat the Agoraphobia, and another symptom might then be created; and so the cycle continues...
Therefore I can only recommend to you that, if you are considering Hypnotherapy for your problem, you take the time and make the effort to go to a therapist who has been properly trained in Hypno-Analysis, because this will be your assurance of effective treatment for your problem; and it will also be worth you travelling some considerable distance to the therapist, if necessary, to obtain this therapy from a professional, qualified, practitioner who fully understands Analytical Hypnotherapy.
It is a matter of some pride to me that I belong to the International Association for Evidence Based Psychotherapy (IAEBP) - probably the only group of therapists in the UK that specialise in Analytical Hypnotherapy, and fully understand Analytical Hypnotherapy and Hypno-Analysis and routinely achieve very good results for all sorts of clients and problems, by using this therapy. Although numbering more than 200 practitioners throughout the UK we are in fact rather ‘thinly spread’ and I am one of very few therapists in the whole of Surrey that specialise in this type of Hypnotherapy.
A good place to seek out a suitably qualified therapist
near you who is suitably qualified in both Suggestion Hypnotherapy and Analytical Hypnotherapy would be the web site for the International Association for Evidence Based Psychotherapy (see the
'Links' page of this website), the psychotherapy organisation to which I belong, that specialises in both types of therapy. Alternatively, contact me and I shall try to provide you with the
contact details for several qualified practitioners of Hypno-Analysis in your area of the country.
But really, Hypnotherapy has a tremendous potential for
helping a person to be ‘the best person that they can be’, and for helping them to maximise their potential. It provides an opportunity for you to free yourself from the things which hold you back;
and thereby help you to create a happier and more positive future for yourself.
After looking at this web site you too might be interested in ascertaining just exactly how the Surrey Hypnotherapy Clinic can help you, as an individual. So reading this web site might be a whole new beginning for you...
If you have a problem that you would like to discuss,
and would like to have a free initial consultation, then please contact me to arrange an appointment, by either e-mail (preferably) or telephone (you might well have to leave a message), as detailed in the Contact Us section of this
web site.
Then we can meet and discuss the therapy in relation to your own personal situation, and I can answer any questions that you might have.
Thank you very much, and bye for now.
Oh, I almost forgot - if you are curious to know what it is like to be a client receiving therapy from a therapist, take a look at some of the client feedback that has been volunteered to both myself and to other IAEBP therapists:
Some Client Feedback from therapists within the IAEBP
Some Client Feedback from some of my own clients here at The Surrey Hypnotherapy Clinic
And from time to time reports about Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy appear in the media. Just some of the media reports are listed here:
