What is Hypnosis ?
For a description of Hypnosis, and what it is, and what happens to the mind in Hypnosis, please see this 'What is Hypnosis ?' article.
Why is Hypnosis so successful in psychotherapy ?
People seeking psychotherapy are looking to change, in some way, some combination of:
The Hypnotic state facilitates therapeutic access to the unconscious regions of the mind in order to iintroduce new ways of thinking, feeling and behaviour.
How many appointments will I need ?
The number of appointments required varies with the individual client, depending largely on the problem that they are consulting for, the cause of the problem, and the type of therapy used.
The therapy of choice is a transformational type therapy, such as Hypnoanalysis which might typically require something like 6 - 10 or maybe 12 sesssions.
However counteractive therapies, such as Suggestion Hypnotherapy might typically take only 1 to 3 sessions but it is to be expected that the benefits will 'wear off' over, say 3 months.
Peter does offer a free initial consultation in order to meet and discuss your problem(s) to see whether hypnotherapy or psychotherapy might be able to help you.
How much is your Free Initial Consultation ?
Many therapists do make a charge for an initial consultation however Peter believes that it is more ethical to provide a free initial consultation - and your free intial consultation does exactly what it 'says on the tin', and costs you nothing !
The purpose of the initial consultation is to allow you to understand how therapy works and allows you to make an informed decision as to whether therapy could be suitable for you. You, and/or your problem(s), might not be suitable for, or require, psychotherapy or hypnotherapy, in which case Peter will try to direct you towards another form of therapy, maybe recommending a good book that might help you or refer you back to your GP for reassessment of your medication.

I am at work all day during the week - can we make an appointment for a Saturday or Sunday ?
I also work during the week(!), and my weekends are set aside for family time, so weekend appointments are definitely not encouraged. I do however have clients during the evening, so that many clients are able to see me after their work. Appointment times may be made between 9:30am to 8:30pm (weekdays). Note that I like to encourage daytime appointments and so there may be a small premium to pay for an evening appointment, dependent upon circumstances.
Do you offer a guarantee ?
No therapist, anywhere in the world, is able to provide a a guarantee for the success of their therapy because there are so many external and environmental factors that are outside of the control of the therapist, and that can influence the outcome of therapy. However I do guarantee to use my 10+ years of experience, together with my extensive post-qualification training and understanding, to help you to achieve the outcome that you are looking for.
Do you do home visits for therapy sessions?
Some therapists might do home visits but I have a consulting room that is dedicated to the provision of high quality therapy and the thought of arriving at someone's home and then having to battle against the noise of a TV in the next room, together with the possiblity of unexpected interruptions, means that I only do therapy in the familiar surroundings of my own dedicated consulting room.
Additionally, we are situated in a quiet, discreet, setting with easy, and free, parking - so you are assured that your consultations will be discreet, private and confidential. Note that all callers are by prior appointment, which is very easy to arrange - just e-mail Peter first to arrange a convenient time for your appointment.
What are your clients like and where do they come from ?
My clients are normal, everyday, people, who have a some kind of problem that they would rather not have and are sufficiently motivated to do something about it. Typically they are made aware of what I can do for them by either personal recommendation from a previous client or marketing, or a recommendation from their GP.
Geographically my clients for hypnotherapy from mainly Surrey, Hampshire and London (There is a very good train train service between Woking and Waterloo, with trains every 10 minutes or so). As an indication, in addition to Woking itself, clients typically live or work in neighbouring towns, such as: Guildford, Godalming, Farnborough, Aldershot, Camberley, Horley, Weybridge, Addlestone, Sunbury, Leatherhead and Pirbright.
A few years ago I had one particular client who used to fly to and from Spain to see me - which I think just goes to show the lengths to which people will go, to obtain their therapy from a good therapist !
Why do your clients choose psychotherapy with you, rather than some other form of help?
Many of my clients dislike the prospect of embarking on a lifetime of medication to control their symptoms and prefer the idea of psychotherapy because no drugs are used. This is because most forms of medication have, dependent upon the medication, an associated risk of users experiencing:
How will my prescribed anxiety and/or antidepressant medication affect any psychotherapy?
Some clients are taking medication prescribed by their GP or psychiatrist, to help control their symptoms of, say, depression or anxiety. The use of such medication during therapy is very unlikely to harm or interfere with the effectiveness of your psychotherapy, and is far more likely to help than hinder.
Sometimes people undertake psychotherapy principally because they want to stop their medication because of the side-effects that they experience, or because they just don't want to live on medication for, possibly, the rest of their life.
In such cases it may be that, following completion of your therapy, it might then be wise to schedule a consultation with the medical doctor responsible for prescribing your medication, with a view to perhaps progressively tapering down your dosage, to see how you get on.
Many people do find that, following completion of their therapy, they can taper down their dosage and eventually come off their medication altogether.
Will my health insurance company, medical doctor, or my boss/partner, or anyone else, be able to find out that I am consulting you - just how confidential is your therapy?
I totally understand the need for confidentiality. I take client confidentiality very seriously. I make it clear to all of my clients that, unlike some therapists, I won't even approach you should our eyes meet when out shopping in the local supermarket. This is because, if I were to say hello to you, I might be putting you in a somewhat awkward position if you were actually out shopping with a friend or partner whom you hadn't told that you were consulting a therapist. Of course, should our paths cross when out and about, it's always fine for current and past clients to approach me and say "Hello", Similarly, I will not pass on any information about you to any third party, such as a health insurance company or your GP without your consent or agreement.
